Qualified Registered Early Childhood Teacher

Full-Time (37.5 hours)

We’re hiring and looking for an exceptional Qualified Registered Early Childhood Teacher to join our beautiful Caterpillar Infant Room.

This is a permanent, full-time position working 37.5hours per week Monday to Friday, alongside an experienced and supportive team who are passionate about giving our youngest tamariki the very best start.

Our Caterpillar room is a calm, nurturing and relationship-rich environment where respectful care is at the heart of everything we do. With just 20 pēpi and infants, our team of six dedicated kaiako provides exceptional 1:3 ratios, allowing time for truly responsive, unhurried interactions and meaningful relationships with every tamaiti and their whānau.

We believe tamariki thrive when they experience consistent, secure relationships with kaiako who genuinely know, understand and value them.  Our exceptional ratios give our teachers the time and space to follow each child’s cues, support individual routines and create rich, intentional learning experiences that honour each child’s unique pace of development.

You’ll join a team who:

  • Build strong, reciprocal relationships with tamariki and whānau.
  • Value unhurried, responsive caregiving and respectful practice.
  • Work collaboratively and support one another every day.
  • Celebrate each child’s unique learning journey through meaningful assessment and intentional teaching.
  • Embrace Te Whāriki and weave te ao Māori authentically into everyday practice.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Holds current New Zealand Teacher Registration.
  • Has a genuine passion for working with infants and toddlers.
  • Understands the importance of secure attachment, responsive caregiving and relationship-based practice.
  • Brings warmth, professionalism and a positive team-focused attitude.
  • Enjoys reflecting on practice and continually growing as a teacher.
  • Builds strong partnerships with whānau and communicates with empathy and respect.

At CHELC we’re more than a workplace.

You’ll be joining a centre with:

  • A stable, experienced and supportive leadership team.
  • Exceptional ratios in all rooms
  • Full Pay Parity.
  • Ongoing professional learning and mentoring.
  • A collaborative team culture where everyone’s contribution is valued.
  • Well-resourced learning environments.
  • A strong commitment to continuous improvement, quality practice and meaningful relationships.

Our recent ERO evaluation recognised the strength of our relationships, culture and commitment to high-quality outcomes for tamariki. We’re proud of the environment we’ve created and are looking for someone who shares our values and wants to make a genuine difference in the lives of tamariki and their whānau.

If this sounds like you and you’re ready to join a centre where relationships come first, tamariki are at the heart of every decision, and you’ll be supported to thrive professionally, we’d love to hear from you.

To be considered for this position, applicants should have the legal right to work in New Zealand (New Zealand citizenship, residency, or a current valid work visa).

We’re ready to welcome the right person into our Caterpillar whānau as soon as possible, so applicants will need to be currently based in Aotearoa New Zealand and available for interview.
