In the coming days, our Centre welcomes reviewers from the Education Review Office (ERO). While reviews are a regular part of early childhood education in Aotearoa New Zealand, they are also a valuable opportunity for us to pause and reflect on the work we do every day with our tamariki and their kaiako.
At CHELC, we view an ERO review not simply as an evaluation, but as a chance to reflect on our practice, celebrate what is working well, and identify where we can continue to grow. Quality early childhood education is never static. It evolves through reflection, conversation, and a willingness to keep improving for the benefit of the children and families we serve.
Our team has spent time reviewing our systems, documentation and teaching practice to ensure they reflect the learning and care that takes place in Centre each day. Much of this work is already embedded in our ongoing internal evaluations. The review simply gives us a moment to step back and look more closely at how our practices align with our philosophy and the expectations of the early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki.
What matters most to us is that our tamariki feel a strong sense of belonging, experience meaningful learning opportunities and are supported by kaiako who are reflective, responsive and committed to continuous improvement. Reviews such as this help us ensure we’re maintaining those standards while continuing to strengthen our practice.
ERO may invite feedback from whānau as part of the review process. If you do choose to share your experiences, your voice contributes to the wider picture of our learning community and helps demonstrate the partnerships that are so vitally important in our early childhood education setting.
We are proud of the environment we’ve build together at CHELC – this is a place where tamariki, whānau and kaiako feel welcomed, valued and connected. As always, we remain committed to learning, reflecting and improving so that we can continue providing the very best for the tamariki in our care.
