The Phone Call Nobody Wants to Make

There are few calls parents dread more than the one from daycare saying their child is unwell.

Because behind that call is often immediate stress – leaving work, cancelling meetings, reorganising the day, and worrying about your child.  As kaiako, we see that. We understand how much pressure many whānau are already carrying, and we know those feelings come from a place of deep love and care.

But we also want to gently share the other side too. Making those calls is hard for educators as well.

No kaiako enjoys ringing to say a child needs to go home. When we do, it comes from one place: care.
🤍 Care for the child who needs comfort and support
🤍 Care for the wellbeing of the other tamariki
🤍 Care for the health of our teaching team and centre community

Behind those phone calls are humans too – kaiako who have spent the day comforting sick children, cleaning up vomit, changing clothes, cuddling upset tamariki, and trying to keep everyone safe and well.  Our kaiako are often parents too – we get it!  We understand

Parents are stretched.
Educators are stretched.
And at the centre of it all is a child who simply needs care.

At CHELC, we believe strong relationships are built through kindness, understanding and working together – especially on the hard days.   Thank you for trusting us to care for your tamariki. 🤍
